TINY-MINY GREENHOUSES®
by TWO SPIRIT
We who collect and care for African Violets (AV's) learn quickly that there are times when we have to cover a plant, plantlets or leaves to provide them the correct environment after a change such as a repot, new & separated babies or newly laid leaves via the open pot method.
All of us use a variety of methods to accomplish this. Some use Ziploc Bags, large soda bottles, purchased covers. It would be an understatement to just say that we are innovators when it comes to finding, fashioning and using these containers.
Just as you, I have employed different types of items to cover my AV's. Recently, however, I decided I needed something that was easier to use. I searched many resources in my quest. One day while online, I noticed small greenhouses of the size that could be used indoors. What a neat invention. And I became aware that some of you use them and indicate they are great for certain purposes. However, they are out of my price range and a bit too large for the confines of my small apartment. Thus the Innovator within me brought forth an idea. Why not make real small greenhouses that can be used for one AV or a tray of babies, or a tray of leaves.
After a good many attempts, I finally designed what I have named Tiny-Miny Greenhouses® By TwoSpirit. The process of improving the design and then building several prototypes continues to this day I have applied for a Patent, just in case. At this time, I can use with my illustrations, "Patent Pending". Which means, the design is protected from being copied or duplicated.
Thus far I have designed, constructed and am using versions of the Tiny-Miny Greenhouses® with two different footprint sizes, three different heights and two designs that allow me to add extenders for AV's of greater height, such as the Large Standards.
I would like to share several photographs with you illustrating what I now use when necessary for covering AV's, separated babies and open pot laid leaves. The current dimensions of my Tiny-Miny Greenhouses® are those best suited for my style of AV growing. That is, everything is wicked so the greenhouse has to allow enough height for not only the item, but also the wicking containers I use.
Who knows, you might find that my flexible design might be ideal for you too. Just make sure you receive permission to do so via the mail from me. Remember, Patent is Pending.
I must give credit where credit is due. I am a person who has never - ever been able to take good photographs. It would not be far from the truth by my saying that even with an instant camera, the photos turn out absolutely horrible. So... the photographs you are about to view were taken and provided by my companion, Robynne Elske. Without her providing this important contribution, an honest illustration of TwoSpirit's Tiny-Miny Greenhouses would not be possible. Thank you so much Robynne.
